Meet the teaching staff at High Ongar Primary School
We try to adapt our staffing to meet the needs of our school and children. We teach our KS2 children in separate year groups in the mornings. We have a very dedicated and hardworking team at the school who strive to do the very best for the children in their care.
Ash Class - Ms V Evans
With over 15 years of experience teaching and being a senior leader in local Essex schools, I am delighted to be joining HOPS at this exciting time. I am focused on creating an excellent provision that engages and motivates our learners to reach their full (and unlimited) potential.
Beech Class - Mrs Fielding-Prior
I have been teaching for over fifteen years and I joined HOPS in 2004. Prior to this, I taught in the London Borough of Newham and in another Essex school. I am the Key Stage 1 Coordinator and the coordinator for assessment and literacy.
Elm Class - Mrs Martin
I joined HOPS in 2019 with ten years of teaching experience. Prior to joining HOPS, I taught in two outer London schools and I have had the experience of teaching in both KS1 and KS2. I am currently the maths, PE and MLF lead.
Maple Class - Mrs Smolen
I started at High Ongar in 2003 and I have taught at several junior schools in Essex. I coordinate science, DT, art and design and display. I also enjoy coaching tag rugby and organising the tournaments.
Willow Class - Miss Bishop
I have been teaching for over ten years and I joined the school in 2004 having worked in Wales. I am the Key Stage 2 Coordinator and I coordinate music and ICT as well as running the school choir.
Teaching Assistants and Higher Level Teaching Assistant [HLTA]
We are fortunate to have a teaching assistant also known as a TA attached to each class across the school, every morning. In our two classes in KS1 they have a TA in their class for the afternoon too. Our teaching assistants provide valuable help in the classroom, covering classes, teaching small groups and individuals, undertaking admin tasks, putting up displays, the list is endless. In addition they still find time to do playground duty and run clubs. Our TAs are an essential part of our school team. Our HLTA Mrs Morris teaches Y3 in the morning and teaches classes across the school in the afternoon. Having built in cover across the school ensures continuity for the children.
