Welcome to High Ongar Primary

We are a small primary school set in the heart of a village community. Our beautiful, grade II listed, Victorian building dates back to 1867 and it has been maintained to a high standard in keeping with the surroundings which have been designated as a conservation area.

We have a very caring ethos and a warm and friendly approach and our school is small enough so that we get to know all the children and parents. Your child will be very well cared for in our school. The school has an excellent reputation for extra curricular activities and sport and despite our small size we do get involved with lots of activities within our local community. Our website is very comprehensive and we hope that you find it informative. If you are a prospective parent and you would like further information please contact the school.

The Curriculum

The new National Curriculum was introduced in September 2014; it is a set of subjects and standards used by all primary schools so children learn the same things. It covers what subjects are taught and the standards children should reach in each subject.

The National Curriculum provides an outline of core knowledge around which teachers can develop exciting and stimulating lessons to promote the development of pupils’ knowledge, understanding and skills as part of the wider school curriculum.

Local Area

High Ongar is a small village just off the A414 between Chelmsford and Harlow. The school is served by the local town of Ongar which has a range of small shops, a supermarket, library and sports centre with a swimming pool.

There is a lot of history around. The school itself is over 150 years old, the worlds oldest timber framed church (pictured above) stands just a couple of miles west and there is a 'not-so-secret' secret nuclear bunker a few miles to the south.

Further Information

Parents and prospective parents can contact the school by telephone or email. The school office is staffed from 8.30am until 4pm and there is usually someone in school before and after those times.

While the Headteacher will usually see parents without an appointment you can also book an appointment to see the head or any of the teachers in the school.
